Skyhook and Shockletz secure major racing campaign milestones

Australian horse racing saw significant campaign developments with Skyhook and Shockletz securing paths toward major upcoming races.

Skyhook won the Group 2 $300,000 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens. Jockey Kerrin McEvoy guided the horse to a one-and-a-quarter length victory over Magnatear. Trainers Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou confirmed the horse is being prepared specifically for the Group 1 $10 million Golden Eagle at Royal Randwick on October 31, opting to skip the Epsom Handicap to maintain peak form.

In another major development, Shockletz secured a ballot exemption for the Melbourne Cup after winning the Group 3 Archer Stakes (2500m) at Flemington. Ridden by Harry Coffey, the mare won by 2.25 lengths. Trainer Ciaron Maher noted that the decision to use blinkers for the first time contributed to the performance, noting the mare's suitability for long-range preparation.
