SkyLabs blood pressure ring shows improved hypertension control in clinical study

A clinical study conducted by a research team at Korea University Anam Hospital has demonstrated that using SkyLabs’ cuffless blood pressure ring, known as ‘CART’, can significantly improve blood pressure control in hypertensive patients.

The study, published in the journal ‘Clinical Hypertension’, tracked 246 patients with poorly controlled hypertension over six months. Patients who used CART to provide 24-hour blood pressure data for medication adjustment achieved a target blood pressure attainment rate of 65.8%. This is 29.5 percentage points higher than the 36.3% rate observed in the control group receiving standard clinical care.

Additionally, the CART group showed a lower 24-hour average systolic blood pressure, with a reduction of 7.35 mmHg compared to the standard care group after adjusting for patient characteristics. The study also noted a greater increase in the average number of antihypertensive drug classes prescribed to the CART group, suggesting that continuous monitoring data assists medical professionals in making more precise adjustments to treatment plans.

While the results are promising, researchers noted that because this was a prospective non-randomized study, further randomized clinical trials are necessary to definitively confirm the device's clinical utility and effectiveness.
