Skyscanner identifies top 10 travel destinations for 2027

Skyscanner Japan has released its list of the top 10 trending travel destinations for 2027, based on an analysis of tens of thousands of search queries between January and June 2026. The data indicates a shift in Japanese traveler preferences toward destinations that balance accessibility with new discoveries, moving away from the previous trend of seeking once-in-a-lifetime remote locations.

Ulsan, South Korea, emerged as the top destination with a 138% year-on-year increase in searches. Other notable locations include Caticlan in the Philippines, Christchurch and Queenstown in New Zealand, Palma in Spain, Rovaniemi in Finland, Busan in South Korea, Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, Phu Quoc in Vietnam, and Venice in Italy.

South Korean cities showed significant growth, with Busan also appearing on the list following a 76% increase in searches. The report suggests that travelers who have previously visited Seoul are increasingly looking to expand their interests to more local cities and coastal areas.
