SkyShowtime owners review future of European streaming service
Owners of the European streaming service SkyShowtime, Comcast and Paramount Skydance, have initiated a strategic review of the company’s future. According to an internal memo sent to CEO Monty Sarhan, shareholders are evaluating several options, which include the possibility of shutting down the platform entirely.
The review is driven by an increasingly competitive and challenging streaming market. SkyShowtime, which launched in 2022, operates across 22 European markets and provides content from studios including NBCUniversal, Sky Studios, and Paramount. While the service remains fully operational for now, the board is considering whether to maintain its current form, change its business model, merge with another service, or sell parts of the project.
Industry experts suggest this review may be linked to Paramount Skydance’s pursuit of a potential acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. For current subscribers, the service continues to function normally, and management has instructed employees to maintain focus on operations through 2027.
