SKZ to demonstrate thermographic testing for injection molding
The Kunststoff-Zentrum SKZ is hosting a practical demonstration day for its TherMI research project on September 17, 2026, in Würzburg-Lengfeld, Germany. The event focuses on active thermographic testing techniques designed to detect surface streaks and internal inhomogeneities in injection-molded parts.
The TherMI project aims to develop an automated, non-destructive, and contact-free inline testing technology. By using optical or infrared radiation to stimulate components, the system uses infrared cameras to evaluate differences in absorption, emission, reflection, and temperature distribution. The goal is to create a user-friendly measurement technology that can be integrated directly into the injection molding process.
During the event, participants can tour the SKZ model factory, observe live measurements, and bring their own samples for examination. Daniel Seewald, a researcher at SKZ, noted that the event allows companies to experience the technology firsthand and discuss specific production requirements to better assess the method's potential and limitations.
