Benfica and Omonia face off in Europa League clash

Omonia Nicosia and Benfica are set to face each other this Thursday at the GSP Stadium in Cyprus for the third round of the UEFA Europa League league phase. Both teams enter the match with perfect records in the competition, having won their opening two fixtures.

Benfica, managed by Marco Silva, secured victories against AC Milan and Celtic to earn six points. The Portuguese side looks to extend its winning streak and maintain its position near the top of the table. Key players to watch include Colombian forward Jhon Duran, who recently scored twice against Celtic.

Omonia Nicosia, led by Henning Berg, also holds six points following wins over Celta Vigo and NK Celje. The Cypriot side aims to continue its unbeaten run, which currently stands at seven matches across all competitions. Omonia will be looking to improve its historical head-to-head record against Benfica, having lost both previous official encounters.

Personnel updates include uncertainty regarding Omonia's Senu Coulibaly due to injury, while Benfica will be without Argentine Enzo Barrenechea. The match carries significant implications for both clubs as they compete for a direct spot in the knockout stages.
