Slack introduces AI agent features to compete in enterprise market
Slack is undergoing a strategic evolution toward an “agentic enterprise” model through new AI-driven features. At the Salesforce Dreamforce 2026 event, Slack unveiled upgrades to its Slackbot AI, which will soon allow users to engage in two-way voice conversations. This AI agent is designed to perform real-world business actions via natural language, such as updating records or triggering automations, without the need for typing.
Additional upcoming features include “Surface,” a tool that allows users to generate interactive interfaces for workflows through verbal commands, as well as AI-assisted video and presentation deck generation.
These developments follow a period of intense market competition. While Slack initially revolutionized business communication through its user-friendly interface, it faced significant challenges from Microsoft Teams. Microsoft leveraged its Office 365 ecosystem to bundle Teams for free, capturing a dominant 37% market share compared to Slack’s 13%. Following its acquisition by Salesforce for $27 billion, Slack is now pivoting toward deep AI integration to regain competitive momentum in the enterprise sector.
