Slack introduces Slack Code for collaborative AI-assisted development
Slack has introduced Slack Code, a new feature designed to facilitate real-time, collaborative software development within dedicated AI coding channels. This tool allows teams to move coding workflows out of private environments and into shared workspaces where developers, product managers, and designers can track discussions, project plans, and code modifications in one place.
The feature supports integration with various AI coding agents, including Anthropic’s Claude Code, Cognition’s Devin, GitHub’s Copilot, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Vercel agents. These agents can suggest solutions and generate code based on existing context, while remaining subject to human oversight and Slack’s established security framework.
To connect AI agents to platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams, developers can utilize several methods including Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers, tool calls, or continuous data synchronization. While Slack and Microsoft provide first-party MCP options, third-party platforms like Nango, Composio, and Arcade offer additional infrastructure for multi-tenant authentication and complex data flows.
