Slaný maternity hospital reports rising birth numbers
The maternity hospital in Slaný is reporting an increase in births, contrasting with a national trend in the Czech Republic. According to the Czech Statistical Office, live births in the country fell by 7.9 percent year-on-year, dropping from 84,311 in 2024 to 77,636 in 2025. However, by September 24, Slaný recorded 343 births compared to 328 during the same period last year.
To enhance patient experience and support natural childbirth, the Slaný maternity hospital has introduced new services, including water births, birth pools, birth couches, and aromatherapy. The facility focuses on low-risk mothers and emphasizes minimal separation between mother and child through practices like the ‘gentle cesarean section’ and increased bonding.
Dr. Markéta Matoušková, head of the gynecology and obstetrics department, emphasized that while the hospital supports natural methods, medical readiness remains a priority. The team undergoes regular training to manage complications and maintains collaborations with clinics in Prague and Kladno for neonatal transfers if necessary.
