Slate Auto announces modular cargo kits for electric pickups

Slate Auto has confirmed plans to offer modular cargo kits for its Blank Slate electric pickup trucks. During a recent ride-along event in Portland, Christian Kreipke of the company’s Fleet Business Development team detailed options designed to appeal to both commercial fleets and retail customers, such as ‘van lifers’ looking for electric camper bases.

The kits are expected to start at approximately $3,000. Two primary configurations are being developed: a standard kit based on an SUV-style square rear enclosure, and a taller ‘high-boy’ high-roof variant. The high-roof option is designed to create a continuous roofline from the windshield to the tailgate using a spoiler-like cap, effectively transforming the pickup into a small panel van for increased interior height and cargo capacity.

Customization options may include various side panel configurations—such as blank or glass panels—and optional rear glass or bulkhead deletes. While the company has not officially released consumer pricing for the base vehicle, reports suggest the compact electric pickup could start around $25,000. Slate Auto has previously targeted late 2026 for its first customer deliveries.
