Slate Auto plans affordable electric pickup and cargo van variants

US startup Slate Auto is developing a minimalist electric pickup truck designed for affordability, with starting prices reported at just over $26,000. The vehicle utilizes a single base configuration that can be expanded through reusable and convertible module kits, a strategy intended to reduce manufacturing complexity while offering flexibility to users.

The truck is expected to offer a range of approximately 205 miles and supports fast charging that can reach significant levels in about 30 minutes.

Beyond the pickup model, Slate may expand its lineup to include cargo van variants. Reported configurations include boxier or high-roof options, which could serve small businesses, delivery operators, and tradespeople. These van conversions could potentially start at an additional $3,000, positioning the vehicle as a low-cost alternative to larger electric commercial vans currently on the market.
