Slatina femicide suspect commits suicide in Zagreb prison
The suspect in the Slatina femicide, identified as M. P., committed suicide in a Zagreb prison on September 12. The man was accused of the brutal murder of his wife, a mother of six children.
Following the incident, the Croatian police admitted to procedural failures occurring immediately before the murder. Police Director Nikola Milina reported that despite known risks, the department failed in the organization of the suspect search, the deployment of additional forces, and communication between the local station and the operational center. Consequently, five police officers face disciplinary action for serious breaches of duty.
Minister Alen Ružić stated that current institutional efforts are focused on protecting the rights of the six children left behind. While he expressed confidence that social workers had not committed errors based on existing documentation, he has ordered an extraordinary inspection to evaluate inter-institutional communication and coordination. Additionally, investigations are being conducted into the role of the State Attorney's Office (DORH) in the handling of the case.
