Slavi Georgiev leaves GERB group to become independent in Plovdiv

Slavi Georgiev, a municipal councilor in Plovdiv, has left the GERB political group to continue his mandate as an independent. Georgiev originally entered the Plovdiv Municipal Council through the civil quota on the GERB list.

In a statement, Georgiev explained that becoming independent aligns more closely with his personal views and provides him the freedom to express opinions and examine city issues from multiple perspectives. He emphasized that his priority remains the long-term interests of Plovdiv and the quality of the municipal budget rather than maintaining a stable party majority.

During a recent council session, Georgiev presented proposals regarding the municipal budget in his capacity as an independent. This move drew criticism from GERB members, including Gosho Kachkov, who questioned the validity of making proposals if one does not support the budget. The transition has marked a shift in the council dynamics, as Georgiev was previously noted for frequently defending the group's positions during public debates.
