Slavi Trifonov announces closure of 7/8 TV

Slavi Trifonov, leader of the “There Is Such a People” party, has announced the closure of his private television station, 7/8 TV. In a social media post, Trifonov cited an inability to compete within the Bulgarian media market, alleging that the two largest private national broadcasters have formed a cartel.

Trifonov claimed these major entities monopolize the advertising market by pre-purchasing advertisements to prevent smaller competitors from accessing revenue, regardless of viewership levels. He stated that such practices violate anti-monopoly rules and make the existence of independent, small-scale television impossible.

Launched in late 2019 following Trifonov’s departure from bTV, 7/8 TV served as a platform for his political messaging and various entertainment formats. While the announcement included thanks to his team and audience, no specific date for the cessation of broadcasting was provided.
