Slavi Trifonov destroys Petrohan Pass memorial plaque

Slavi Trifonov, leader of the ‘There Is Such a People’ (ITN) party, has claimed responsibility for the destruction of a memorial plaque at the Petrohan Pass. The plaque was erected by relatives of the six victims of the tragic Petrohan-Okolchitsa incident earlier this year.

Trifonov criticized the memorial, describing it as a “sinister mockery of morality and legality” due to its symbols and the way it listed the names of the perpetrator alongside his victims. He further alleged that the monument was installed without official permission from the Berkovitsa Municipality.

In response to the destruction, Ralitsa Asenova, the mother of victim Nikolay Zlatkov, called on the prosecutor's office to investigate the incident, stating that the act went “beyond absolutely everything” and was a crime rather than mere vandalism. Journalist Martin Karbowski stated he was present during the removal, asserting that the state allows “distortions of memory and truth.”
