Moltzan wins Sölden giant slalom to open Alpine Ski World Cup FAST-MOVING

American skier Paula Moltzan secured her first career World Cup victory in the women’s giant slalom at the season opener in Sölden, Austria. Competing on the Rettenbach glacier, Moltzan overcame challenging weather conditions, including heavy snow and poor visibility, to finish with a time of 2:14.82.

She narrowly defeated Albania’s Lara Colturi by just 0.01 seconds. Germany’s Emma Aicher completed the podium in third place. Despite leading after the first run, American star Mikaela Shiffrin finished seventh in the final standings.

The event also saw various performances from international competitors, including a fifth-place finish for Italy’s Asja Zenere and an eleventh-place finish for Croatia’s Zrinka Ljutic. Austria’s Julia Scheib, a previous season winner, was forced to retire following a crash during the first run.
