Sleep deprivation linked to unexplained infertility in medical case
Medical experts at Tam Anh General Hospital in Hanoi are highlighting the impact of sleep deprivation on infertility. A case involving a couple struggling with unexplained infertility for four years revealed that chronic late-night sleeping habits significantly contributed to their condition.
Clinical evaluations showed that while the female patient had appropriate ovarian reserve and stable reproductive hormones, the male partner exhibited declining sperm motility and high levels of sperm DNA fragmentation. Both individuals reported long-term patterns of irregular and insufficient sleep due to professional demands, with the female patient averaging only 4-5 hours of sleep per night.
Dr. Nguyen Le Thuy noted that such lifestyle factors are often overlooked in reproductive health assessments. Chronic sleep disorders can disrupt the biological clock and alter hormone secretion, which not only reduces the chances of natural conception but also negatively affects embryo quality and the success rates of assisted reproductive technologies.
