Sleep quality linked to professional longevity and insomnia management

Research highlights the significant impact of sleep quality on both physical health and professional longevity. A Finnish study published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine suggests that sleep disturbances in individuals over 50 can lead to shorter careers. The research, involving large cohorts from the FPS and HeSSup studies, examined the relationship between sleep duration and professional life expectancy between the ages of 50 and 68.

In terms of dietary interventions, nutritionist Pablo Ojeda recommends pumpkin seeds as a natural aid for sleep, particularly for those over 45 experiencing hormonal changes. Pumpkin seeds are rich in magnesium and tryptophan, an essential amino acid that aids in the production of serotonin and melatonin. A clinical trial published in Nutritional Neuroscience supports this, noting that natural tryptophan from pumpkin seeds significantly reduced time spent awake for individuals suffering from chronic insomnia.
