Sleman Education Officials Address Rising School Bus Use and Laptop Requirement Rumors
The Sleman Department of Transportation reported a rise in passengers on its Si Bulan school‑bus service as the new academic year begins. Four routes operate with four buses, and while ridership grew—especially on routes 3 and 4 serving the Terminal Pakem–Adisutjipto corridor—the department said no additional buses or routes will be added this year. Officials noted that larger buses on the busiest routes can accommodate extra students, and that the existing fleet still meets demand.
Separately, social‑media posts claimed that a public junior high school in Sleman was mandating new students to own laptops, with non‑owners allegedly placed in separate classes. Deputy Regent Danang Maharsa said he was surprised by the reports and pledged an evaluation of any such policy, stressing the need to verify its source and consider families' ability to afford devices. He warned that compulsory laptop ownership could create discrimination and affirmed that the regency will review the matter.
