Sleman prepares strict sanctions for students involved in street crime
The Sleman Regency Government is preparing strict sanctions for students involved in street crimes, brawls, and acts of violence. This policy is outlined in Sleman Regent Instruction Number 400.2.4.1/0099/2026 regarding the prevention of juvenile delinquency, violence, and radicalism among students.
Under the new regulation, students proven to have committed criminal offenses may be required to resign from their schools, though the government maintains that such measures will not strip students of their legal right to education. The policy aims to address ongoing issues of student brawls and street violence.
Regent Harda Kiswaya emphasized that addressing juvenile delinquency requires active parental involvement. He noted that parents must play a role in supervising and guiding their children, rather than defending them when they commit wrongdoing. The mechanism will involve parents or guardians signing a formal statement of commitment alongside the student. The government is also coordinating with the Yogyakarta provincial administration to extend these measures to high school and vocational school students.
