SLEP Licancabur faces teacher dismissals and leadership uncertainty

The Colegio de Profesores de Chile has expressed concern following the dismissal of 15 teachers from schools under the SLEP Licancabur Local Public Education Service in Calama. The terminations were carried out under Article 19 S of the Teacher Statute, based on results from the Professional Teacher Development System. The union argues that these evaluations do not fully reflect professional performance and should consider factors such as career trajectory and community engagement. Legal and administrative reviews are underway to challenge these decisions.

Simultaneously, there is anticipation regarding a potential leadership change within the SLEP administration. Rodrigo Sepúlveda Tagle has been identified as a possible acting director. Education workers and unions are monitoring this transition closely, hoping it will address pending commitments, administrative issues, and personnel management within the service.
