Slezské divadlo in Opava to stage Bedřich Smetana opera

The Silesian Theatre in Opava is set to present a new production of Bedřich Smetana’s opera, ‘Tajemství’ (The Secret). Directed by Dominik Beneš, the production marks his return to the title following a successful run at the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Plzeň. The premiere is scheduled for October 25, with a second performance conducted by Miloslav Oswald occurring two days later.

Based on a libretto by Eliška Krásnohorská, the opera explores the long-standing feud between two neighbors, Kalina and Malina, and the romantic connection between their children. The narrative delves into themes of human relationships, forgiveness, and the distinction between material wealth and true life value. The production features set and costume design by Dana Haklová, dramaturgy by Alžběta Matoušková, and choreography by Martin Tomsa.
