Slim Buster alleges 12 years of unpaid royalties from GHAMRO

Veteran Ghanaian musician Slim Buster, also known as Ebenezer Asare, has alleged that he has not received music royalties in 12 years due to mismanagement by the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).

Speaking in an interview, the hiplife and highlife performer claimed that during a recent system migration, GHAMRO wiped existing artist records instead of upgrading them. He stated that musicians were informed they would need to re-register their works to be eligible for payments. Slim Buster, who currently resides in the United Kingdom, expressed frustration with the process, noting that he chose not to engage in further arguments regarding the requirement to re-register.

GHAMRO is the body responsible for licensing music users and distributing royalties to rights holders in Ghana. While the organization has recently announced a GH¢1.43 million distribution and efforts to modernize administration, these allegations highlight ongoing concerns regarding transparency and record-keeping within the country's royalty system.
