Alberta launches fall respiratory virus immunization program
The province of Alberta is launching its fall immunization program to prepare for the upcoming respiratory virus season. Aligning with National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommendations, the initiative offers vaccinations for influenza, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
The program includes expanded protections for children and vulnerable adults. Immunizations will be accessible through community pharmacies, Primary Care Alberta public health clinics, and various outreach services across the province.
Starting October 5, residents can book appointments online, via Health Link at 811, or by contacting local pharmacies directly. Officials stated that the program aims to reduce serious illness and hospitalizations, thereby easing pressure on the provincial healthcare system.
