Sliven positioned as economic hub with new funding announced
During a visit to Sliven for the ‘Sliven – Future and Investments’ business forum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investment and Industry Alexander Pulev announced new financial support measures for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and regional development.
Key initiatives include new financial instruments through the Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) and the Fund of Funds. Specifically, 120 million euros in urban development funds are available for applications in the Sliven region and surrounding areas. These resources are intended to support energy efficiency, energy connectivity, transport connectivity, and various types of social, health, and cultural infrastructure.
Pulev highlighted Sliven’s strategic location near the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing with Turkey and the Port of Burgas, noting its potential role within the Trans-Caspian Middle Corridor. He emphasized that the region is positioned to transition from the periphery to a central hub of Bulgaria’s economic transformation due to shifting global supply chains.
