Sljeme Parish Launches Three-Day Pilgrimage Ahead of Our Lady’s Feast
From Thursday 16 August to Saturday 18 August, the Župa Majke Božje Sljemenske – Croatia’s highest parish, perched at 1,001 m in Medvednica nature park near Zagreb – will hold a three‑day spiritual preparation for the upcoming feast of Our Lady of Sljeme. The programme includes daily 18:30 hr rosaries, opportunities for the sacrament of reconciliation, and evening Masses. On Sunday 19 August, the central celebration will feature four Masses at 09:00, 10:30, 12:00 and 15:00, led by vicar Fr. Zdravko Knežević, parish priest Fr. Tomislav Špiranec and Jesuit junior Fr. Tomislav Barun, followed by a youth blessing. This year marks the 93rd anniversary of the chapel’s dedication (1933). The parish, without permanent residents, invites pilgrims, hikers, families and others, noting, “Na Sljeme se dolazi iz mnogo razloga – zbog prirode, planinarskih staza i pogleda. No, vjerujemo da je svaki dolazak ujedno i prilika za susret s Bogom.”
