Sloth mother and offspring rescued from highway in São Paulo

A female sloth carrying its young was rescued from the edge of the Padre Manoel da Nóbrega Highway (SP-055) in Pedro de Toledo, São Paulo. The animals were spotted by a traffic inspection team from the concessionaire Novo Litoral during a routine monitoring operation.

The mother sloth sustained injuries to its claws and abrasions on its paws, likely caused by moving across the asphalt. Both the mother and the offspring were transported to the Instituto Ambiecco, a specialized organization for the clinical rehabilitation of wild animals, for intensive veterinary care. Their release back into the wild will depend on future health evaluations.
