Slovak beverage producers face financial losses and production shifts

Several established beverage producers in Slovakia are facing economic challenges. Steiger Brewery, located near Banská Štiavnica, reported a loss of 1.17 million euros for 2025. This follows a year where revenues dropped by nearly 20 percent, falling from approximately 9.68 million euros to 7.79 million euros. Despite a 27 percent reduction in material and energy costs, the brewery's net loss increased by roughly 137 percent compared to the previous year.

Similarly, the sparkling wine producer Hubert J. E. has announced it will cease production in Slovakia after 200 years, moving manufacturing to its sister plants in the Czech Republic. The company cited an inability to reach full production capacity and maintain long-term economic sustainability despite recent high investments. Hubert J. E. will maintain sales, marketing, and administrative operations in Slovakia. The company attributed some of its difficulties to Slovak government fiscal consolidation measures and increased competition from private label brands.
