Slovak breeders oppose dissolution of Breeding Services SR

Livestock breeders in Slovakia have expressed significant concern regarding the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's plan to dissolve Breeding Services SR, a state enterprise. The organization is responsible for managing the Central Register of Farm Animals, which is essential for the distribution of agricultural subsidies, and for monitoring livestock productivity.

Breeders warn that the proposed changes could dismantle systems established over a century. While the ministry states it is conducting analyses to increase efficiency and reduce costs, representatives from breeding unions have contested the rapid transition of duties. The ministry has declined to confirm the dissolution, stating that professional analyses are still ongoing.
