Slovak comedy 'Kavej 2' draws nearly 75,000 viewers in first week

The sequel to the popular Slovak comedy Kavej, titled Kavej 2, opened to strong box‑office numbers. During its opening weekend the film attracted 44,826 cinema‑goers, and with pre‑premiere screenings and a festival tour it reached a total of 74,381 viewers in its first week, making it the most successful domestic release of the summer so far.

Kavej 2 outperformed several foreign titles, including Odysea (39,564), Michael (32,371) and the animated Minions & Monsters (30,651). It also surpassed the historic drama Štúr (18,593). The accompanying Kavej 2 Fest took the film to open‑air venues, drawing the largest crowds in Košice (3,152), Zemplínska Šírava (2,302) and Prešov (2,185). Director Lukáš Zednikovič said the audience response shows the story and humor resonate across generations. The film is currently shown in over 90 cinemas and is slated to appear in 131 venues across Slovakia by the end of summer.
