Slovak courts terminate proceedings against judge and reject police indictments
Significant legal developments have occurred in Slovakia regarding high-profile corruption and abuse of power investigations.
Criminal proceedings against judge Denisa Cviková, who was implicated in the 2020 ‘Búrka’ police operation, have been legally terminated. The prosecution concluded there was sufficient justification to determine that she did not commit the offense of accepting a bribe. The General Prosecutor's Office rejected an appeal against this decision, and the Judicial Council of the Slovak Republic emphasized the importance of respecting the presumption of innocence.
In a separate matter, the Regional Court in Bratislava has upheld a decision to reject the indictment against police officers associated with the Ján Čurilla case. The court confirmed the earlier ruling by the Bratislava I City Court, which cited serious procedural errors in the investigation. The case, involving allegations of abuse of public authority, has been returned to the prosecution for further preparatory proceedings.
