Slovak Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák faces parliamentary criticism over defence plan and military hospital spending

Opposition members have attacked Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák, saying the ministry’s long‑term development plan is “a useless bundle of contradictions and obfuscation” and fails to address the Russian threat, drones or other modern needs. They also questioned why the defence budget is being used to fund two large military hospitals in Prešov and Bratislava, describing the expenditures as “millions of euros” that divert funds from other defence priorities.

In a separate parliamentary hearing, health‑committee chair Vladimír Baláž and KDH deputy Peter Stachura criticised the construction of the Prešov military hospital, accusing the minister and the project’s director of mismanagement, lack of transparency and cost overruns. They called for accountability, noting that the hospital’s delays and alleged overpricing could lead to legal disputes and further budgetary pressure on the state.
