Slovak delivery companies warn of surge in fraudulent COD shipments

Major delivery companies in Slovakia, including Slovenská pošta, DPD, SPS, and GLS Slovakia, have issued a joint warning regarding a surge in fraudulent cash-on-delivery (COD) shipments.

Slovenská pošta reported a massive spike in suspicious activity, noting that cases in the first half of this year were 33 times higher than the total for all of 2023. Scams often involve customers receiving worthless items instead of high-value goods, such as mobile phones, or being asked to pay incorrect amounts.

To prevent fraud, authorities advise customers to only accept expected packages and to verify the sender, the item, and the exact COD amount before paying. Fraudsters obtain personal data through fake e-shops, fraudulent forms, social media, or leaked databases. Experts urge caution when providing personal information online and suggest verifying e-shops before making purchases.
