Slovak economy faces stagnation as GDP growth slows

The Slovak economy is experiencing a period of stagnation, with GDP growth slowing to just 0.8% in the second quarter of 2026. This marks the sixth consecutive quarter of growth remaining below 1%.

Economic data from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic indicates that the current growth is primarily driven by household consumption, trade, and exports, rather than industrial activity or investment. Investment activity has continued to decline, and key industrial sectors remain at low levels. Experts warn that relying on consumption as the primary economic driver is unsustainable if household savings are depleted or incomes fail to rise.
