Slovak emergency services conduct hazardous material drill

Firefighters and emergency responders in the Žilina region conducted a tactical exercise in Horný Hričov to simulate a major emergency. The drill, held at a Slovnaft facility, involved a simulated leak of hazardous substances from a railway tanker accompanied by a fire.

Multiple units participated, including the Fire and Rescue Service of the Žilina Region, the Žilina Emergency Rescue Brigade, and the Ministry of Interior’s Middle School Fire Protection unit. The exercise tested coordination between teams, specifically dividing tasks into fire suppression and the containment of the chemical leak. Organizers noted that such drills are essential for testing communication and rapid response capabilities in high-risk environments.
