Slovak employees frequently work during vacations

A survey conducted by the salary portal Platy.sk between 15 May and 8 June 2026 sampled 2,429 Slovak workers. It found that 22 % of respondents admit to working while on holiday. About a third said they only do so when contacted about urgent matters, while 18 % reported that their superiors expect them to work. Employees in lower‑paid jobs are more likely to combine work with leave, often because their roles require physical presence and cannot be performed remotely.

Conversely, 40 % of respondents said they completely avoid work during their vacation. Most workers plan to use all or almost all of their allotted days off, emphasizing the importance of rest for mental health and performance. The survey highlights a split between those who feel compelled to stay connected and those who deliberately disconnect to preserve work‑life balance.
