Slovak film ‘Generál Golian’ premieres in London

The Slovak historical film ‘Generál Golian’ received a significant international premiere at the Picturehouse Cinema in Notting Hill, London. Held under the auspices of the Slovak Cultural Institute in London, the event marked the first time a Slovak film has been screened within the Picturehouse cinema network.

The film, directed by Juraj Štepka, depicts the life of General Ján Golian against the backdrop of the Slovak National Uprising. Following the screening, the audience responded with prolonged applause, leading to a discussion between the creators and the public regarding the historical legacy of the General and the relevance of the uprising in a modern context.

Notable attendees included representatives from British military history institutions, such as Dr. Toby Haggith and Clare Watson from the Imperial War Museums. Also in attendance was Lieutenant General Sir George Norton from the Royal College of Defence Studies.
