Slovakia's Finance Minister Kamenický urges 2027 budget approval

Finance Minister Ladislav Kamenický said that passing the pre‑election state budget for 2027 is the government's top priority. He dismissed the idea of a budget provisional, warning it would cause severe problems for the Slovak economy, and emphasized the need for a swift parliamentary vote before the 15 October deadline.

Kamenický signaled willingness to eliminate the controversial transaction tax, which would cost the state about €450 million, if his coalition partners find a compensating source. He also noted ongoing talks about energy aid for households and urged that the budget vote not be combined with a confidence motion.

Coalition tensions have risen, with the Slovak National Party (SNS) demanding that pensions for people over 90 be raised to €824. In a televised debate, Tibor Gašpar sharply criticised SNS leader Andrej Danka for proposing populist measures that he said impede budget agreement. The minister also defended a modest €80,000 state grant for the Rock pod Kameňom festival, contrasting it with larger funding given to the Pohoda festival.
