Slovak Football Association faces debts exceeding 6.5 million euros

The Slovak Football Association (SFZ) is facing a severe financial crisis, with total debts exceeding 6.5 million euros. These liabilities include unpaid amounts to various entities, such as youth coaches, referees, and delegates.

SFZ President Ján Kováčik confirmed that the organization owes the national team players more than 200,000 euros in bonuses and rewards from the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. Kováčik stated that the association is in communication with the players and has agreed upon a repayment schedule that the leadership intends to honor.

The financial strain has forced the association to implement austerity measures, affecting event calendars and operational costs. To manage the liquidity crisis, the SFZ is seeking assistance from factoring companies alongside funds from UEFA and FIFA.
