Slovak Football Association faces financial crisis amid debt disputes
The Slovak Football Association (SFZ) is facing significant internal tension and financial uncertainty following a recent conference. During the meeting, delegates representing the opposition group, Futbalové fórum, left the hall in protest after their proposals regarding an audit and discussions were rejected by the current leadership.
Ivan Gondor, General Manager of MFK Zemplín Michalovce, has publicly challenged the financial transparency of SFZ President Ján Kováčik. While Kováčik stated that the total debt of the SFZ and its subsidiary, SFZ Marketing, is approximately 10 million euros, Gondor claims the actual figure is much higher.
Gondor alleges that the president is only accounting for short-term liabilities due in 2026 and 2027, while ignoring long-term obligations. According to Gondor, once all liabilities are factored in, the total debt exceeds 19 million euros, with nearly 10 million euros already past their due dates. Gondor warned that the association is in a critical state, noting that any creditor could potentially file for bankruptcy.
