Slovak footballer Jaroslav Hamšík dies in car accident

Jaroslav Hamšík, a 19-year-old footballer for the club TJ Družstevník Chtelnica, died in a car accident near Trnava on Sunday, October 11. The accident occurred shortly after 02:00 on the road between Trnava and the village of Špačince.

According to police, an 18-year-old driver was traveling in a Ford Fiesta with three other teenagers aged 18 and 19. Investigators believe the driver failed to adjust their speed to the road conditions and the driver's abilities while navigating a left-hand turn, causing the vehicle to leave the road and roll over several times. Hamšík, who was in the front passenger seat, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

The club released a statement mourning the loss of their player and teammate, noting that he had played his final match just hours before the tragedy. The family has requested that mourners place white flowers at the grave instead of soil. Police have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
