Slovak Government Criticised Over Health Insurance Plan and Corruption

The Slovak Movement "Obrody" says the current governing coalition is copying its program by proposing a single state health insurance company that would collect all mandatory health contributions and provide universal public coverage, while private insurers would offer only voluntary supplemental policies. The party argues that the existing system allows profit‑making from compulsory contributions, costing the state billions of euros.

An MEP from Progressive Slovakia criticises the prime minister’s response to the European Commission’s rule‑of‑law report, noting that Slovakia has recorded zero new high‑level corruption cases in the past year. The MEP highlights that corruption is estimated to cost the country about €2.5 billion annually – an amount that could fund dozens of kilometres of highways or new hospitals. The commentary also points to rushed legislation and reduced public input, underscoring broader concerns about governance and financial losses.
