Slovak government negotiates ČEZ stake buyout in JESS

The Slovak government is negotiating to purchase a 49 percent stake in Jadrová energetická spoločnosť Slovenska (JESS) from the Czech company ČEZ. This stake is part of the project to build a new nuclear power source in Jaslovské Bohunice.

A meeting between shareholders, including representatives from JESS, ČEZ, and potentially the Minister of Economy Denisa Saková, is scheduled to take place at the government office on August 24. The outcome of these negotiations may result in a request for a third or subsequent expert assessment to determine the fair value of ČEZ’s share.

Opposition members have raised concerns regarding the project's costs, noting discrepancies between media reports of a 15 billion euro price tag and alternative estimates of approximately 8 billion euros. Additionally, political criticism has been directed at the management structure of JESS.
