Slovak health authorities issue warnings on child stress and summer injuries
Health authorities in Slovakia have issued warnings regarding child well-being following the summer holidays and the start of the school year. The Public Health Authority (ÚVZ) has alerted parents that the first days of school can cause significant stress and anxiety in children. Symptoms to watch for include withdrawal, brief communication, motor skill clumsiness, and decreased performance due to overload. The authority recommends that parents and teachers provide emotional support, ensure adequate sleep, and maintain regular routines to prevent psychosomatic illnesses.
Separately, the National Institute of Children's Diseases (NÚDCH) reported that emergency doctors treated 8,400 pediatric patients over the summer. A significant concern was the high number of serious intracranial injuries caused by electric scooters, particularly among older children not wearing helmets. Other common injuries included falls from bicycles, trampolines, and playground equipment. Medical staff also treated numerous cases of intoxication involving alcohol, drugs, medications, and nicotine, as well as digestive issues and allergic reactions.
