Slovak hospitals advance with new heliport and robotic surgery milestones

Medical facilities in Slovakia are advancing through infrastructure improvements and technological milestones. The Nitra University Hospital plans to open a new, fully functional heliport by the end of next year. The project, estimated at approximately 3.8 million euros, involves constructing a heliport on the roof of the surgical pavilion with direct elevator access to operating rooms and intensive care. This new facility aims to replace the current temporary landing area, which is limited by weather conditions and technical requirements.

In Martin, surgeons at the University Hospital Martin have reached a milestone by completing 100 robotically assisted anatomical lung resections. As the first hospital in Slovakia to launch a robotic thoracic surgery program in 2024, the facility utilizes robotic systems to perform precise minimally invasive procedures. These operations, which include lobectomies and segmentectomies, allow for smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, and faster patient recovery compared to traditional methods.
