Slovak Interior Minister announces dismissals over camera scandal

Slovak Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok has announced personnel changes within the Ministry of Interior following a controversy involving traffic radar cameras. The director of the applications department and a project manager have left their positions after it was discovered that two cameras used during testing contained Russian components.

Šutaj Eštok stated that the ministry was deceived by the supplier. He noted that the cameras were in a testing phase and did not transmit any data that could be exploited. The cameras have since been returned, and the funds have been recovered. The minister emphasized that while the employees did not fail procedurally or breach their contracts, he required staff to perform beyond their basic duties.

Moving forward, the ministry plans to automate the procurement system for cameras. Future procurement for school cameras will follow a transparent public process guided by a new security project. Additionally, the minister addressed his recent trip to the United Arab Emirates, clarifying it was a private vacation funded by personal resources rather than a business trip.
