Slovakia interior ministry denies Russian-made traffic cameras
Opposition parties – KDH, Progressive Slovakia and the Freedom and Solidarity (PS) movement – allege that traffic‑monitoring cameras and radars installed on Slovak roads may be of Russian origin, raising security concerns. They have called for an explanation from Interior Minister Matúš Šutaj Eštok, demanded the publication of procurement contracts and urged a parliamentary defence and security committee to conduct an independent audit.
The Ministry of Interior rejects the accusations, stating that the devices are not Russian‑made. It cites a certification from the Slovak Metrological Institute confirming the manufacturer, and says the equipment operates within a closed, isolated communication network that does not allow third‑party access to state databases. The ministry has asked the National Security Authority (NBÚ) to carry out an independent technical assessment, and it has halted further purchases until the review is completed. Supplier Soitron also denies any Russian components in the systems.
Both sides note that no concrete evidence has been presented to substantiate the claim of Russian origin, and the dispute remains a political and security issue under parliamentary scrutiny.
