Slovak investment trends show shift toward ETFs and stocks
A recent survey by the investment platform Crowdberry reveals that nearly 44 percent of Slovaks plan to invest, with a growing preference for ETF funds (33.6 percent) and stocks (30.2 percent). Interest in traditional banking products has declined from 26.5 percent to 19.1 percent, as investors become more sensitive to fee structures and seek higher yields.
In the second pension pillar, savings for over 2.1 million Slovaks are being systematically moved into guaranteed bond funds after age 50 to protect against market volatility. However, data shows these guaranteed funds have yielded between -0.62 percent and 0.49 percent over the last five years, significantly underperforming index funds which earned between 9.6 percent and 11.3 percent annually during the same period. This discrepancy is compounded by inflation, which rose approximately 42 percent in Slovakia between early 2021 and mid-2026.
