Slovak koruna holdings exceed 91 million euros

According to 2025 data from the National Bank of Slovakia, citizens still hold a significant amount of former Slovak koruna currency. There are an estimated 18 million banknotes in circulation with a total value of approximately 68 million euros.

These banknotes can still be exchanged for euros at the National Bank of Slovakia without a time limit and without fees, using a fixed conversion rate of 1 euro to 30.1260 koruna. Exchange can be done in person at the bank's cash desks by providing identification, or via mail under specific conditions. The bank may also replace damaged banknotes if they are identifiable and more than half of the original surface area remains.

While standard koruna and haler coins can no longer be exchanged for euros, Slovak commemorative coins remain eligible for exchange without time restrictions. There are approximately 900,000 commemorative coins remaining, valued at roughly 23.2 million euros. When combining unexchanged banknotes and commemorative coins, the total value held by the public exceeds 91 million euros.
