Slovak Ministry of Education defends teacher safety measures

The Slovak Ministry of Education has responded to concerns raised by the Slovak Chamber of Teachers following a recent attack at a primary school in Staškove. The Ministry rejected claims that the state is failing to address teacher safety or student risk behavior, asserting that specific measures are in place.

New regulations introduced in January include sanctions for the gross insult, defamation, or physical assault of pedagogical staff. To support schools, the Ministry has allocated over 29 million euros for school support teams through late 2026. Since 2021, the number of social pedagogues in the country has increased by 77 percent, while school psychologists and special educators have also seen significant growth.

In a separate incident at Matej Bel Primary School in Šamorín, Principal Marta Izsófová addressed rumors regarding police intervention. She clarified that police presence was not due to an immediate threat but was part of an investigation into a verbal conflict between students. The school is cooperating with police and social services to resolve the matter.
